Boys & Girls Clubs of North Central Massachusetts
 

The MIT community invited members to the Boys and Girls Club of North Central Massachusetts to an evening of astronomy activities, poster presentations, planetarium shows and science-theatre performances as a part of "Astronomy in the City" program. Youth from communities in Boston and those of the B&GC-NCM enjoyed a poster and astrophotography secession which allowed them to share insights about personal exploration of the universe. Members of the B&GC-NCM displayed the work that they created from the Harvard Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. The twelve B&GC-NCM members that were apart of the event were: Illeanais Centeno, Elijah Collins, Izaura Colon, Alfredo Franco, Mathius LaRoche Amanda Mills, Dylan Quigley, Denzel Reyes, Abayuba Rosa, Naji Ryan, Elizabeth Sergey and Anaih Thompson.

 

Omnova Solutions in Fitchburg generously made a $3,000 donation to the B&GC-NCM. The technology-based company will also donate $27,500 to education, health/welfare, civic projects and the arts in 2009. The fifth annual Boys & Girls Club of North Central Massachusetts' Mini-Golf Classic is off to a roaring start with a commitment from its main sponsor, the W.E. Aubuchon Hardware Company and William E. Aubuchon III to renew its annual support of the event. The Lancaster Golf center will be providing its facilities for the event and the Ninety Nine Retaurants will also be providing a barbeque for the 200 kids and guests that attend. Once again the mayors of Fitchburg and Leominster declared the month of April as Boys & Girls Club of North Central Massachusetts Month. And during the month your local club celebrated the achievements of its kids over the last year: it's Homework Heroes, Youth of the Year, Kids of the Month.
Leominster Credit Union recently continued its support of the Club with a $2,500 donation. The funds will help support the broad range of programs benefiting youthful members ages 8 to 18. Pictured at the check presentation with BG&C members is Gordon R. Edmonds.

Valerie Francois of St. Bernards High School in Fitchburg was honored by the Ninety Nine restaurants as Youth of the Year of the Boys and Girls Club of North Central Massachusetts. The Youth of the Year promotes and celebrates Club members’ service to Club, community and family; academic performance; good character; life goals and poise and public speaking ability. Ninety-Nine Restaurants  General Manager, J.P. Seedorff and Fitchburg Manager Dale Robinson,  presented Valerie with a gift card package and will give a $5,000 scholarship to a club member who has been accepted to an accredited collegiate program to pursue a hospitality degree.More.
